Hi, I’m Marsha, the face behind Mar@boe.

In my office in the beautiful city of Leiden I translate English and German texts into Dutch and write and edit Dutch texts.

More than just words

When I’m not working, I like to travel and discover new places and cultures. And if there’s one thing I have learned from my travels, it’s that translating words into a different language is never enough.

Making a difference

If you want to communicate effectively, you have to take the culture of your audience into account. That is what I like most about my work as a translator, the fact that my expertise can really make a difference.

What other clients say about me:

Marsha is a professional translator who delivers excellent quality work and we can always rely on her. She translates precisely, has a critical eye and is able to play with language so that the right word is always exactly in the right place. Marsha is true to her word, she always delivers her work on time or even before the agreed deadline. We hope to continue working with her for a long time.

Lingua & Co Translation Services

I had the pleasure of working with Marsha on several cyber security projects – from an extensive and highly technical report to related social media posts and landing pages. Her responsiveness and professional yet friendly way of communicating gave me the safe feeling that I’ve found a partner I could trust and rely on. Her expertise and detail-oriented approach shows in the outstanding quality of her translations. I won’t hesitate to contact her again for future English to Dutch translations and can highly recommend her services.

Annalena Ouwens
German Marketing Translator & Content Writer

Marsha is our go-to translator for all our projects into Dutch, be it for witty headlines, T&Cs, websites, etc. She is very thorough and creative, and we have only received positive feedback from the revisers who have proofread her work. I would highly recommend her for any Dutch translation or transcreation that also requires strong copywriting skills.

A few facts about me:

To give you a little insight into who I am, I have collected some fun facts about myself below.

History

Along with translation, I also studied history so your historical texts are in safe hands with me.

Keep learning

I love learning new things all the time. For example, I have followed college-level and university-level courses in the fields of legal translation, environmental science and natural science, art history and copywriting.

Brewing beer

I recently obtained the General Certificate in Brewing from the Institute of Brewing and Distilling, and I plan to follow more courses in the field of beer and brewing. I use the knowledge I gain from these courses to write and translate even better texts for the brewing industry and to brew beer myself in my spare time.

Conferences

I regularly attend international conferences in order to learn from my colleagues and extend my network.

Codes of conduct

I am a member of various professional organisations, and it goes without saying that I follow their codes of conduct.

And what about the name Mar@boe?

‘Mar@boe’ is a combination of the first three letters of my first and last name, but ‘maraboe’ is also the Dutch name of the marabou stork, a very large stork with a bare head and a pink throat sac. Also known as the ‘undertaker bird’, it is a striking, but not particularly handsome animal.
